In 2007, Giannis took to basketball. Within two years, he was playing competitively for the youth squad of Filathlitikos. In 2011, he joined the senior men’s team of Filathlitikos and played with them in a semi-pro league, Greece’s third-tire.

In the 2012-2013 season, Giannis became a pro with Filathlitikos. He played in Greece’s second-tire basketball, the Greek A2 League. During this season, he averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 block over the course of 26 games. As a treat for the fan, he was selected as a special participant in the 2013 Greek League All-Star Game. In fact, he recorded a season-high of 23 points.
