HK-1
Because it was almost entirely made of birch, the HK 1 was dubbed the “Spruce Goose.” It was originally intended to be used as a transatlantic transport aircraft during World War II, but it was never completed in time. The United States military only flew it once, in 1947, and only one prototype was ever built. It’s on display at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in Oregon.
Blohm And Voss BV 238
During WWII, the German flying boat Blohm and Voss BV 238 was built and flew for the first time in 1944. The aircraft was the heaviest ever built at the time, weighing 120,769 pounds empty. Due to the resources required to construct it, only one was built. Furthermore, the Blohm and Voss BV 238 is the largest of all the aircraft produced by the Axis powers during the war.
