Attendees, of course, had to get to the event. Since tens of thousands of people opted to attend the festival and rushed to Bethel, New York, the streets resembled parking lots! Many people chose to walk instead of driving, and the roads were finally closed. Some people were unable to even access the festival’s entrance road. On stage, Arlo Guthrie said, “The New York State Thruway is closed, man.” It was actually open the entire time, but state police closed the Newburgh and Harriman exits to prevent additional people from attending the Woodstock Festival.

The Legendary Jimi Hendrix

On the third day, Jimi Hendrix took the stage. His iconic rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, which many connect with the festival, was performed for festivalgoers. It’s incredible because it was their first time performing together in front of such a large crowd!
