Janis Joplin Of Course
Janis Joplin was a legend who didn’t need an introduction. She was one of the main attractions at Woodstock! She began playing around 2 a.m. on Saturday, but she had the hearts and souls of the audience in her hands the entire time. Woodstock was her biggest show since going solo. In case you didn’t know, she was a member of the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, whose album Cheap Thrills was named one of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Initially, festivalgoers were required to pay an admission charge, but when the crowds continued to grow, the organizers opted not to collect money. The organizers discovered they couldn’t limit the number of guests since happy people swarmed the event grounds. They expected 50,000 people to attend, but Woodstock attracted over half a million. There were even claims that additional individuals wanted to attend but couldn’t because they couldn’t get to the location.
