Otzi The Iceman

Otzi the Iceman lived sometime from 3400 to 3100 BCE. They call the well-preserved mummy by many names: the Man from Hauslabjoch, the Tyrolean Iceman, the Similaun Man, and the Hauslabjoch mummy. Found in September 1991 in the Ötztal Alps between Italy and Austria, he is the oldest human mummy from Europe! His remains are displayed at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology.

What Otzi The Iceman Really Looked Like

The mummy of Otzi the Iceman offered a look into the Europeans during the Copper age. His body was preserved so well because he had been submerged in ice for about 5,300 years. The naturalistic reconstruction would have been impossible if they did not find his body in such great condition. It let archaeologists and scientists get a good idea of the way he would have looked all those years ago!
