One commenter was more upset that the others. He explained, that “WD” meant “Water Displacement.” He further added that is was not at all meant to be used as engine oil. Instead, it is to be used to “clean the individual parts of the engine upon assembly.” This is perhaps another interesting take on the matter. Indicating that WD-40 was not made to be utilized as engine oil from the very beginning.

Another viewer wrote a sincere comment of concern regarding their safety and mentioned that they could have been seriously hurt. They also wrote, “WD-40 is NOT formulated as a high-temperature oil. It is a ‘Penetrating Oil,’ used to free up frozen parts.” They also added that it could probably be used for emergency, but only if the car was driven reasonably, not brought down to its limits like they did.
