Giovanni Battista Sidotti
Giovanni Battista Sidotti was born in 1668. He was an Apostolic missionary who visited Japan to spread Christianity, which was quite dangerous back then. He disguised himself as a samurai but failed to convince them. They captured him and then imprisoned him. Called “the last missionary”, he died in captivity in 1714.
What Giovanni Battista Sidotti Really Looked Like
It was a good thing they uncovered his remains intact. They found his body during an excavation project in 2014. Apparently, it cost them more than 2 million yen to do this. The remains made it easier to get an accurate depiction of him. The forensic anthropologists found enough to finish their work, even though the skull had some damage. They said this is very close to wf hat he must have looked like!
