Various historical figures have been immortalized in portraits, paintings, and sculptures. However, it turns out that some of these works are not always accurate! Sometimes, the person who paid for the pieces of art asked the artists to make the subject look better than they actually are. It’s a good thing that technology has finally allowed us to see a better depiction of these icons!
King Tut
King Tut is an Egyptian pharaoh whose reign lasted from 1332 to 1323 BC. This was considered the New Kingdom era. Howard Carter is a British archaeologist who discovered his tomb in 1922. At the time, it had been sealed for more than 3,200 years! They found artifacts and treasures inside the tomb, things that were meant the accompany the pharaoh into the afterlife. Scientists have found what caused his death and what he actually looked like!
What King Tut Really Looked Like
They conducted DNA tests on the mummy, which led to the revelation that the pharaoh had a number of health issues. Tut was tall but frail and suffered from malaria, an infected broken leg, and a bone disorder! They also saw evidence of a club foot, a result of inbreeding. The revelations explained a number of things about his life. This must be why he did things sitting down – yes, even archery!
