Tom graduated from high school in California and studied at the University of Southern California. His height of 6’4” along with that fantastic work ethic earned him a basketball scholarship at the University, but that wasn’t enough for Tom. To supplement his income, he also worked as a part-time model. While he originally attended college to study Business Administration, his drama coach saw a side of Tom that would change his life forever. Tom changed his path and began studying with the American Director and Hollywood acting instructor, Milton Katselas, who was working at Beverly Hills Playhouse at the time.
My Country
When we said Tom Selleck had multifaceted talents, we weren’t kidding! He joined the army in 1967 and served for six years in the California Army National Guard’s 160th Infantry Regiment. He earned the rank of Sergeant and speaks fondly of his service. In fact, he said, “I am a veteran, I’m proud of it. I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”
