Her great grandmother struck a pose in the muumuu at a historic community of Hanapepe in Kuai. She smiled widely right in front of the United Church of Christ, her church. “What’s really special about it is she’s there,” explained Shannon. “Her ashes, her remains are in the back of the church there, so it was like visiting her again.”

Shannon wanted to honor the memory of her great grandmother by paying the church a visit. After all, it was a huge part of Kamei’s life in the past. She decided to don the muumuu that brought things full circle.
