It appears that this show completed every single task on the reality television show checklist. On the show, teen angst, backstabbing, and lovers’ quarrels were all commonplace. It appears to be a very, highly scripted production. According to Spencer Pratt, he and Heidi Montag once had to shoot the same sequence 15 times in order to achieve the desired result. This was the point at which she became convinced that she was “pregnant,” to which he reacted angrily. The show’s creators also confessed that they cast a large number of candidates for the role. This includes Lauren’s coworker, who happens to be her best friend.

While it was still in production, this show was on the hunt for up-and-coming artists to showcase. It provided these individuals with financial rewards or visibility as a result of their participation. In reality, the producers had a greater influence on the voting than the participants and judges. All of the participants were enraged when the winner was announced. Aside from that, the show makes extensive use of editing to make otherwise excellent performances appear worse than they actually were.
