While it was somewhat selfish of him, Michael hoped to spend a longer time with the man who helped deliver him into this world. That moment had been incredible for the two of them. Michael simply wanted to get to know the retired cop better. Now that Matthew invited his family to come over for lunch, he had the opportunity to do just that. He could make his wish happen thanks to his note!

It makes a lot of sense that Michael was thrilled to tell his mother exactly what happened. He knew that she was going to be excited to hear about this coincidence! Michael could imagine how she was going to respond to the story when he finally told her about it. This was truly an incredible time for him, and he could not wait to tell her what happened when he pulled over the BMW.
