Mark Hamill was a cultural icon who impacted generations of filmmakers, including the original Star Wars trilogy’s Luke Skywalker. Mark’s notoriety as a Star Wars character didn’t always help him advance in his career. One producer replied unequivocally, “I don’t want Luke Skywalker in my movie.” Mark’s performance was too legendary for him to be swiftly cast in future films, and he ended up doing voiceover work for the rest of his career. He was involved in a traffic accident during filming the first Star Wars picture, which didn’t help matters. The crash left genuine scars, as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. As Star Wars revived for a second trilogy, and he was invited to resume the part of Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill was instructed to hit the gym to reclaim some of his prior good-looking splendor. It was successful, and he recalls it having the same sex appeal as before.
