Queen Elizabeth I
From 1558 to 1603, Queen Elizabeth I ruled over England Ireland. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. However, the marriage was annulled, and she was illegitimized. It took her a while before she could ascend the throne in 1558. There are many paintings of her, but mixed media artist Mat Collishaw took it upon himself to find out what she actually looked like.
What Queen Elizabeth I Really Looked Like
He created a hyper-realistic animatronic mask that comes with eyes that follow you and a mouth that can mimic speech. The mask has an attached mirror and is now on display at the Queen’s House. It is right across the Armada portrait, which shows a youthful Elizabeth I even though she was 55 years old at the time it was painted. The mask gives us a more accurate depiction of the Virgin Queen back then!
