Ford Edsel
Not many cars were worse than this one. The Ford Edsel was a flop in the ’50s when it came out. According to The New York Times, the Edsel “was one of those ugly ducklings that never had a swan phase”. It turns out that Ford invested about $250 million into the model, but consumers had different tastes by that point, meaning this cruiser didn’t get much love. One of the worst parts of the car was the grille, which “drew comparisons to an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon, a toilet seat, and other cruder images,” The Washington Post wrote.
Plymouth Fury
The 1961 Plymouth Fury really was named well. It had a very menacing-looking front-end. It “wasn’t the only furrowed brow scowling out of showrooms across the United States in 1961. But it was the one that possibly caused the most nightmares,” the Curbside Classic wrote.
