Ridges In Audio Jack
I bet this is another thing you never really knew the purpose of but never questioned it. The ridges aren’t just so the jack doesn’t fall out of the headphone port, but actually, the piece that makes up the ridges is used to keep the wires in place so they don’t snap while being used. They also dictate which side of the headphones all of the sounds go to! One band is for the left ear, one is for the right, and one is for both ears.
Silica Gel Packets
You may recognize these small packets from a shoebox or new purse, and it’s pretty commonly known that they’re meant to keep the item you’ve purchased clean and fresh until you use it. Have you ever given any thought to what’s inside of these packets? The beads inside are called “desiccant”. The beads help to keep moisture out by absorbing up to 50 percent of the humidity. The contents of these packets can also be quite useful if you drop your phone in water, as they will absorb much more liquid than a bag of rice will.
