Golf Digest has been publishing sports magazines for almost seven decades. Yet, only 23 women have appeared on its covers. Only 11 of those ladies were professional golfers. Naturally, many questioned why the magazine included and featured Paige. Her detractors claimed that Paige’s lack of golfing expertise did not merit the rare and coveted honor of being featured on the cover of the magazine.

Paige, according to ESPN sports pundit Sarah Spain, was only allowed to appear on the cover of Golf Digest because of her beauty and affinity for wearing a specific sort of clothes. Furthermore, Paige faced similar criticism from others who claimed she was “sexualizing female golf.” Paige was apparently wounded by the insults she got, which is a reasonable and understandable reaction.
