At the beginning of the show, there are four participants from different bakeries from across the United States. Each of them competes against the other in three rounds of cupcake baking in the hopes of winning a chance to appear in an event that features a thousand different kinds of cupcakes. More often than not, the first round will include a challenge that requires the usage of unusual cupcake components, like as chocolate chips. It has been suggested that they are aware of the components before they are presented on the show, according to rumor.
