Dazed and Confused
Having taken a step back and been able to look at his life with fresh eyes after all of this news slammed him like a freight train in the chest, Richard was able to see things more clearly. He then came to a realization about himself. He saw that his boys didn’t look anything like him, but that they did appear to be related to him. He was filled with sadness and rage, and he reached for his phone to contact Kate and confront her about the issue. He had no idea what she would say, and he was terrified.

Richard began drafting an enraged text message to Kate, asking that she explain everything that had happened. He informed her that he had been admitted to the Liverpool Chest Hospital on that particular day and had been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. He told her that he had been told by the medical staff that they had never encountered a male patient with Cystic Fibrosis who had fathered even a single child, much less three. His statement continued by stating that he was “98 percent positive” that he was not the biological father of any children. He sent the SMS to Kate and noticed that she had received it, but she did not respond to him. This convinced him that remaining courteous was not going to yield any results, and he resolved to play hardball as a result.
