His greatest musical success came took place between the early to mid-1970s, when he was known as the best-selling performer since Elvis Presley. Throughout his the years of his recording career, he had 52 top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 30 of which made him number one. Many people were saddened to hear that on December 12, the American superstar died of coronavirus complications in Dallas. He was 86 years old.
