Camden’s Promise
Camden may have been the youngster most affected by his father’s fight, but when Darreld improved and regained his strength, the little child was once again content and happy in his life. All of his concerns and anxiety gone as soon as he understood his father will be around for a long time. Camden promised Nancy that he would be the best pupil she had ever had. He was not going to let his instructor down in any way. His family was also intrigued by the idea of doing something unusual.

Raising Awareness
Darreld and Nancy discussed what they could do to raise awareness about organ donation if both of them were to recover. They decided that it would be preferable to first bring it to the attention of the staff at the University of Iowa Transplant Center. Nancy and Darreld’s initiative garnered support from the media, which joined them in their efforts. A significant number of individuals supported the family and the remarkable and extraordinary educator who had helped them by essentially giving them a piece of herself.
